The Burlingame Space, in SW Portland, is now the home of the Burlingame Symphonic Band (BSB) and the Burlingame Wind Ensemble (BWE).
BSB is an advanced ensemble that provides an opportunity for high school & college musicians to play quality symphonic band music with other music students from the Portland Metro area. Adult musicians are strongly encouraged to join.
BWE is an intermediate ensemble designed to prepare middle school and high school students for advanced high school and college ensembles.
Instruments Accepted: Flute/Piccolo, Oboe, Clarinet, Alto/Bass Clarinet, Bassoon, Saxophones, Trumpet, French Horn, Baritone Horn, Trombone, Tuba, Piano, Percussion, & String Bass

Burlingame Symphonic Band's first concert!
Classes are upbeat and fun for the students, while covering important
topics such as tone production, sight-reading, composition, rhythmic and key
studies and skills specific to their instruments.
Program Director, Ben Medler, brings the experience of conducting symphonic
bands at Wilson High School for 7 years. In addition, he has 11 years with students
of all ages in the Portland Youth Jazz Orchestra and at Portland State Univeristy.
Medler has been composing new music for Symphonic Band for several years
and is excited to work with this new ensemble. Ben is an active multi-instrumental
musician raised in the classical music tradition in both choir and band settings.

BSB (Advanced Ens.)
Students should be ages 14+ and have 4+ years on their instrument.
An audition is required (scheduled individually) or a written recommendation
from a current band director or private teacher.
AUDITIONING: An audition or placement is required to join. Contact us to schedule the audition or discuss placement. A recommendation from a band director or private music teacher may bypass an audition. The idea is to make sure that musicians in the band are on a similar level and that every student is challenged at an appropriate pace.

BWE (Intermediate Ens.)
Students should be ages 12+ and have 3+ years on their instrument.
No audition is required.
